The Department of Community Resources Celebrates Black History Month
Greenburgh community members gathered together at the Department of Community Resources on Tuesday, February 27th to face-off against each other in battle of wits as they competed for first place trophies in TDYCC’s annual Black History Month trivia game. Students from Woodlands HS, Alexander Hamilton HS, Grady Elementary along with the Greenburgh Police Department, Westchester/Rockland Guardians and the Youth Division of NAACP joined TDYCC youth teams for a fun night of spirited competition as they bolstered their knowledge of legendary achievements, Supreme Court decisions, notable places and groundbreaking inventions by Black Americans.
The evening was a brilliant showing of Greenburgh’s brightest stars, including live performances by the Teen Acting Group, directed by Paul Kwame Johnson and tributes to Commissioner Andre G. Early and Superintendent Greenburgh Schools, Dr. Tahira DuPree Chase as graduates of Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCU’s). The night ended with award presentations to the 3rd place winner, Westchester/Rockland Guardians, 2nd place winner, TDYCC’s Girls Destined for Greatness and, this year’s Champions, the TDYCC’s Rec team. The night was enjoyed by people of all ages, many of whom have already declared they will be the Champions of Black History trivia next year.

The Distinguished Gentleman of Greenburgh
The Department of Community Resources hosted “A Gentleman’s Calling” on Saturday, March 10th for young males between the ages of 11 and 17 to discuss strategies for success in today’s world. Over 40 boys from the Greenburgh community came together for a much needed dialogue about the world around them. Their participation marks the beginning of their journey to becoming the future leaders of our local and global community. Discussions surrounding life strategies, table etiquette and formal dress led the event. In speaking about what he got out of the event one “Gentleman” said: “…Now I know that to succeed, I know I can never give up on my dreams!”
